1.0     Introduction

In recent years the Android Technology with web services has brought many drastic changes in the mobile application development field. Enterprise Data Tracking System provides a generalized solution to monitor the various works that are carried out by a construction company at different geological points. By using a Web Service the data are stored in the remote database. Enterprise Data Tracking System requires Wi-Fi technology to reach the remote database. Using data in the remote database various reports are generated and projected as a MIS [Management Information System] web application. Thus the construction company can use the MIS to monitor the works carried out at various sites [3].

1.1     Background

C&G Andijes Group Limited deals with construction of power generation and transmission infrastructure including water plants, warehouse and material management in various sites and this makes it hard to monitor the expenditures made and works performed by the various sites of the Construction Company.
The work progress in the company is currently having a site supervisor who furnishes only their weekly or monthly expenditure details and progress of works; because of this the Construction Company has to wait, to know the expenditures and the progress of work made by the various construction sites. This process is very much time consuming and it involves a lot of manual work to be carried out. To update the day to day activities, every site supervisor requires a computer with internet connection at their sites. They also require a camera to capture the construction status.
In inventory section, there is no consideration of request due to outdated stock position at main office that is, calls are made to confirm stock balances before approval and delivery to field offices. No tracking of emergency purchases during project implementation. Not only is the staff finding difficulty in providing documents to support accountability from laborers and for field purchases but also no standards in providing feedback to procurement unit on the quality of materials delivered for field work [1].
The information flows with finance and engineering not always smooth, assets management is manual therefore not easy to consolidate information in one place but also reconciliation of stocks purchased and field usage not done regularly [1].

1.2     Problem Statement

The site supervisors currently furnishes only their weekly or monthly expenditure details and progress of works, because of this the Construction company has to wait, to know the expenditures and the progress of work made by the various construction site. This process is very much time consuming and it involves a lot of manual work to be carried out. To update the day to day activities, every site supervisor requires a computer with internet connection at their sites. They also require a camera to capture the construction status. To provide all these facilities at the remote site the construction company has to spend huge sum of money, time, and space. So to surmount this problem a new framework was proposed. Thus, the project entitled “A Proposed Enterprise Data tracking system to Monitor Works at Remote Sites” [3].

1.3 Main Objective

To develop a system that monitor works at remote sites.

1.4 Specific Objectives

(i)                 To request C&G Andijes Group Limited to let us carry out research from there.
(ii)               To collect information from C&G Andijes Group Limited and this information will enable us structure our solution to achieve the stated main objective.
(iii)             To design the system.
(iv)             To implement the system.
(v)               To test the system.

1.5 Scope

The main target groups for this system are:
  1. Contractors
  2. The builder
  3. Plumbers
  4. Electricians
  5. Subcontractors
  6. Project manager
  7. Foreman
  8. And the workers working at the main office interacting with this people.
Our operational area will be towns within Uganda and the neighboring countries.
The system will allow the site supervisors to monitor progress of work and to know the expenditure made by various construction sites. The system will also do quotations on site and send and receive purchase orders and records them.

1.6 Conclusion

This project titled An Enterprise Data Tracking System Works at Remote Sites provides the construction company an easy and efficient way to monitor the works performed at various work sites. Thus using this system the Construction Company can easily record their progress of various works and their day-to-day. Expenditures that are made at their various construction sites.
